FAREED UDUMAN – Paintings, Poems & Cartoons
Comments & Tributes at the Exhibition held on 13th, 14th & 15th May 2005 at Dienge Gallery

The exhibition was good. The paintings had it’s own character ad style. So sad that dear Uncle Fareed’s talents were latent while he lived, a great artist at least is resurrected posthumously.
All the best for the continuation of enhancing artist’s talents. Thank to the organizers.

Best wishes-

I don’t know what to say! Except that if he had secretly signed off appropriate pictures with famous names of artists we would say what a lovely Picasso, Matisse Van Gogh or whatever!

Congratulations - Jomo and your dear wife, Priyamali. A dutiful son & daughter –in-law for recognizing a Father’s talent. No better tribute. He has contributed to the cultural fabric of the country and his name lives on. Well done!

Excellent Cartoons – interestingly not dated – indicates timelessness of the issues?

A truly refreshing experience. A privilege to see and experience these works. Yes, they do speak to one. What a character he must have been. Thank you, Jomo, for sharing these.

Excellent work.

Congratulations Jomo, for bringing out the book and the exhibition. Your father’s work is very exciting and shows a man who thought deeply yet had his own views on things – The ‘expressionism’ reminds me of Justin Deraniyagala. Pity we won’t see more.

Michael Anthonisz

A superb and extremely eye-opening publication and exhibition. What an interesting and thought-provoking vision Fareed Uduman must have had. Many thanks for informing me of the exhibition.

Jill Macdonald

Art doesn’t seem to be such a big deal. But the effort and imagination embodied in these pieces cannot be valued for anything. A superb exhibition.

Ashan R

Thanks Jomo, for opening the doors to your father’s life.
He must have been a very special person like his Poetry and Art.

Ranjit Samarasinghe

I like the proud crow.

Thank you for giving us this opportunity. Marvellous that your father will be remembered now.

Manel Fonseka.

"Your father was, I think, the only truly expressionist artist that Sri Lanka has produced. I am fascinated by the intensity of emotions he conveyed, the energy coming out of his people and animals, and his brilliant sense of colour."

- Nireka.
